Daniele De Santis | Prepared Drums - live recording
About the Event
Exploring the boundaries between acoustics, electro-acoustics and electronica, Prepared Drums performances are blueprints of the peculiar combination of instrumentalism, crafting and sound design that animates Daniele De Santis’ activities. The project finds its foundation in a longstanding research towards a possible augmentation/electrification of the percussive instruments and their acoustic qualities. An experiment covering from the design to the very manufacturing and live implementation of several custom non-airborne microphones. Their integration in the instrumental setup as major amplifying medium and electronic processing source, becomes the means for a “sound-system-magnified” dynamic topography of all those subtle tactile timbres and microtonal resonant harmonics which reside in the acoustic bodies.
A rich as much as rare sound palette, ultimately serving Daniele’s’ aim of a post-acoustic folk and body-controlled organic electronica, where his atypical cross-over of rhythmical languages leads into a unique hypnotic auditory path of immersive and almost shamanic qualities. Daniele will present and record his Prepared Drums in symbiosis with the acoustics of Morphine Raum and Rabih Beaini’s engineering.
