MOSLEM RAHAL & ENSEMBLE — Sinbad: A Musical Journey

The story of Sinbad and his travels is primarily known in the Western world as a romanticized fairy tale that has little in common with the mythical character’s origins in the Arabic collection of stories known as the One Thousand and One Nights. Syrian ney virtuoso Moslem Rahal and the players and singers of his ensemble, who hail from different countries and regions of the Middle East, present the seafarer as a wanderer between worlds: an emigrant in search of a better life who seeks a dialogue with other civilizations and is shaped by diverse cultural influences—like the musicians themselves. In their program, they trace Sinbad’s path on a musical journey through space and time that reveals universal and deeply human truths.
