About the Event
Simply Beethoven Festival
Premiered together on cold December night in 1808, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Fourth Piano Concerto would redefine both forms, infusing them with the passion of a new Romantic age. Beethoven himself was soloist for the piano concerto, his last public performance at the keyboard. Buchbinder, a pianist revered for his “big-boned, full-throttle Beethoven” (The Guardian), navigates the composer’s introspective nuances and bold bravura passages.
The second half of the program features the most famous symphony ever written: Beethoven’s Fifth. Anchored by his iconic four-note motif, Beethoven outlines a journey from darkness to light, despair to triumph. Join us for an unforgettable evening devoted to a pair of towering works
