About the Event
Armonico Consort, under the charismatic direction of Christopher Monks, continues its pathbreaking revival of the polychoral sacred compositions of Francesco Scarlatti. It presents his thrilling setting of Psalm 110, Dixit Dominus, in company with his equally impressive Mass, both written in the early 1700s for a choir of 16 voices and instruments. The concert opens with Vivaldi’s joyful Gloria in D, most likely created in Venice in the mid-1710s during his time as musical director at the orphanage of the Ospedale della Pietà.
