Late Late Show Upstairs with Miles Pillinger
Lineup
About the Event
Manchester-born drummer and composer Miles Pillinger is one of the most exciting young voices emerging from the UK jazz scene. Winner of the 2025 Peter Whittingham Award, Miles combines adventurous improvisation with the rhythmic energy and melodic richness of Brazilian music, drawing inspiration from artists including Hermeto Pascoal, Max Roach and Chick Corea.
Since graduating from Leeds Conservatoire in 2023, Miles has become a sought-after drummer, performing with artists including Olivia Cuttill, Tara Lily, Nikki Yeoh, Mica Millar, Chip Wickham and NYJO. His own music reflects a lifelong connection to jazz alongside a deep fascination with Brazilian culture, developed further during his time studying in Brazil in 2025.
This special Upstairs at Ronnie's performance celebrates the release of his debut album Belonging, a collection of Afro-Brazilian jazz-inspired compositions exploring identity, connection and the people and places that shape who we are.
“Miles Pillinger’s drum work is a master class in rhythmic control juxtaposed with wild abandon. Few drummers can manage this.”
