About the Event
Born in San Francisco into a family of musicians, identical twins Eytan and Gabriel Schillinger-Hyman have been making music together for as long as they can remember. Now based in New York City, the brothers lead active careers as performers, composers, educators, and bandleaders, appearing at premier venues and festivals including Carnegie Hall, Blue Note NYC, Dizzy’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, SFJAZZ, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Monterey Jazz Festival, The Jazz Cruise, Klavierhaus, Ornithology, Zinc Bar, The Django, Minton’s Playhouse, and more. Their touring has taken them throughout the United States and internationally to destinations including Norway, Iceland, Mexico, Portugal, and Bolivia. Eytan is an accomplished bassist and composer, a graduate of The Juilliard School and Oberlin Conservatory, and currently performs with acclaimed artists including Matthew Whitaker, Isaiah Thompson, and Langston Hughes II. Gabriel is a Steinway & Sons Teacher and Educational Partner, a two-time performer and arranger at Carnegie Hall, and a pianist, composer, educator, and jazz storyteller whose collaborators include Christopher McBride, Lucas Pino, Tim Green, Tyreek McDole, April Varner, and Erena Terakubo. Together, the brothers combine a deep respect for the jazz tradition with a contemporary artistic voice, bringing audiences performances marked by lyrical improvisation, dynamic interplay, and the rare musical chemistry that comes from a lifetime of making music together.
