About the Event
Unmistakably English in the same way as Christine McVie, Stevie Winwood, or Nick Drake, Joanna Eden is a singer songwriter who grew up in the heart of England listening to UK artists playing American blues, jazz and pop.
A writing and recording trip to South America lends a vibrant new sound to her NEW ALBUM due for release autumn '24. 'THE ROAD TO PAYSANDU' combines singer/songwriter storytelling with joyous syncopation!
Uruguayan bass player Andrés Lafone (Airto Moreira, Jon Cleary, Basia, Da Lata) is a pioneer of the UK Latin/Jazz scene with over 50 albums to his credit.
Uruguayan guitarist Guillermo Hill (Mica Paris, Tom Jones, John Crawford, Monica Vasconcelos) is one of the UK's leading latin/jazz guitarists.
Mojo magazine describes her songwriting as having ‘melody, mystery and bite’. With six solo albums to her credit, Joanna is considered one of the finest singerpianists in the UK with a style that covers a broad spectrum, through jazz, soul, bossa nova and blues. Her beautifully crafted compositions give life to personal and expressive lyrics, which - like her songwriting hero Joni Mitchell - question and reflect life’s changes.
Joanna’s interaction with her audience is warm and she has built up a huge following over her 20 year, performing regularly at Ronnie Scott’s Club, The Stables & Apex concert halls. The quality of Joanna’s live work is reflected by the stellar list of artists she and her world class band have supported including Van Morrison, Tom Jones, Jamie Cullum, Roy Hargrove and The Buena Vista Social Club.
Lincolnshire born Joanna Eden wrote and performed her first song at just age 7. The daughter of a musician and a drama teacher, she could read music before she could write, studied piano from age 4 and left university 17 years later with her first tour and an all consuming love of Ella Fitzgerald. At 21 she added Joni Mitchell to her hero list and dedicated herself to singing her own truth.
Joanna also holds a passion for teaching and amongst her students she includes international star Sam Smith, who she taught singing for some 9 years, starting when he was just 10 years old. During this period she also introduced him to songwriting; co-writing and producing his first demos. She is rightly very proud that he subsequently became the highest selling debut artist in US history! The Grammy and Oscar winning star has cited Joanna simply as “the reason I sing!"
