About the Event
Native New Yorker Sam Dillon is a saxophonist, composer, recording artist, and educator, recognized as one of the most in-demand tenor saxophonists of his generation. His work spans more than 40 studio recordings, international performances, and collaborations with leading artists and ensembles.
Dillon’s recent releases include It Takes One To Know One (Cellar Live, 2022), a co-led album with Andrew Gould, along with sideman appearances on recordings by Mark Sherman and Chris Hajian. His earlier albums as a leader include Two Part Solution, Force Field, and Out in the Open. He has performed extensively with major big bands including the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Mingus Big Band, Jimmy Heath Big Band, Slide Hampton Octet, the 8-Bit Big Band, and the Birdland Big Band.
In 2022, Dillon received a GRAMMY Certificate for his participation in the 8-Bit Big Band’s Meta Knight’s Revenge. A Juilliard-trained musician, he earned an Artist Diploma in 2016 and holds additional degrees from SUNY Purchase. He was also a semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition.
Beyond performing, Dillon serves as Director of the Jazz Program at USDAN Summer Camp for the Arts and is an endorsing artist for Yamaha Saxophones and D’Addario Reeds.
Based in New York City and originally from Long Island, Andrew Gould is an in-demand saxophonist, bandleader, and recording artist active across the NYC music scene. He has appeared on multiple GRAMMY-winning and nominated recordings and has performed or recorded with artists including James Moody, Ron Carter, Wallace Roney, Jon Faddis, Ray Angry, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Mambo Legends Orchestra, Scary Pockets, Fifth Harmony, and Mac Miller.
Andrew is a semifinalist of the 2013 Thelonious Monk Saxophone Competition and has recorded music for film, television, and commercials for HBO, MTV, PBS, and Amazon Prime, including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. His television appearances include The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Stephen Colbert, the TONY Awards, and Good Morning America.
A regular member of several acclaimed ensembles, Andrew performs nightly with the Broadway hit Just In Time and is lead alto saxophonist with the GRAMMY-winning 8 Bit Big Band and Dan Pugach Big Band. He has released three albums as a leader, with new projects scheduled throughout 2025, and remains active as an educator and clinician.
