Music from the London stage travelled far beyond the capital thanks to arrangements transmitted in manuscript or printed form. The latest leg in Arcangelo’s multi-season English Baroque Journey takes in the musical delights contained in anthologies such as those produced by Henry Playford and John Walsh or carried around the country by itinerant musicians. Carolyn Sampson and Hugo Hymas help bring the world of the Restoration theatres to life in the programme’s first half, while the post-interval bill dives deeply into the cosmopolitan riches of England’s music making in the opening decades of the 1700s.
