Sanda Weigl sings Brecht

Romanian-born Sanda Weigl has been performing at Barbès for over 2 decades, with a variety of projects -  from the roma songs of her childhood, to the Brecht catalog, Tom Waits songbook, German medieval minnesinger repertoire and more.
Sanda first  achieved fame as a teen-age member of one of East Germany’s most popular rock band. After publicly denouncing Russia’s invasion of Czechoslovakia, she was sentenced to two years forced labor in an East Berlin factory and then, expelled to the West where she worked in theater in Europe with the likes or Robert Wilson. She then moved to New York where, as she puts it, she found her roots.
