LSO Percussion Ensemble

The master of minimalism at 90: the LSO Percussion Ensemble celebrates Steve Reich with a concert featuring three of his works for percussion ensemble. There are few composers who deserve the moniker ‘living legend’ – Steve Reich is one of them. The great US minimalist turns 90 in October this year, celebrated here by the LSO’s Percussion Ensemble with three of his works. Music for Pieces of Wood distils rhythm to its purest form, while Quartet and Sextet expand Reich’s signature pulse into vibrant, interlocking textures full of colour and drive. Reich’s music demands exceptional rhythmic precision, and the LSO Percussion Ensemble, made up of the Orchestra’s own players alongside distinguished collaborators, is perfectly placed to deliver it. The concert will finish at approximately 8.55pm, including 20 minutes interval (timing subject to change).
