Emma Rawicz returns to the legendary PizzaExpress Live Soho, this time with her most ambitious project yet: a four night residency at this iconic venue. Each night will have a unique programme, focusing on special guests, backed by members of Rawicz's all-star touring quartet, featuring some of the leading lights on Europe's scene today.
On this, the final night of Emma's residency, both Gary Husband and Gwilym Simcock take to the stage to form a truly heavyweight quartet, alongside Freddie Jensen on bass.
Emma Rawicz is a young saxophonist, bandleader and composer with an astonishing musical maturity. At just 24 years of age, Rawicz has achieved a huge amount, including the release of four critically acclaimed albums “Incantation”, “Chroma”, “Big Visit” and INKYRA, extensive headline tours across 15 countries, appearances in high profile festivals and venues including concerts featuring as a soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and with the German SWR Radio Big Band at a sold out Berlin Philharmonie.
Emma says: 'Gary Husband is a musician who really needs no introduction, such is the scale of his achievements both as a bandleader and as sideman for veritable legends such as John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth and Billy Cobham to name a few! He is also a deeply generous musician, and was kind enough to join me for several late shows during my residency at Ronnie Scott's. Playing with Gary is a wonderful experience, and this show featuring such a heavyweight quartet promises to be unforgettable'.
Gwilym Simcock is yet another icon of British jazz, one of the most gifted and imaginative composers on the Europea scene. I was a big fan of Gwilym long before we ever played together. Some years, many concerts and a duo album later, I am proud to call him an important musical partner and close friend, and any musical meeting with him is a privilege and a treat. We've played so much in the duo setting, and as keen composers we both enjoy and value a wide range of musical situations. This meeting in the quartet setting alongside such fantastic musicians as Gary Husband, a true legend of British jazz, and brilliant bassist Freddie Jensen, one of my longest standing collaborators and closest friends, is a wonderfully exciting prospect.
