We're delighted to welcome back one of the pioneers of modern UK R&B music, singer-songwriter Junior Giscombe, best known for his transatlantic hit Mama Used To Say. Reaching the UK Top 10 and Billboard Top 30 in 1982, the song propelled him to that year’s Billboard ‘Best Newcomer’ award, presented to him by the iconic James Brown. Junior Giscombe has had a long and varied career over the years. He has worked as a performer, songwriter and within various areas of production, demonstrating his wide ranging talents as a musician. He has also had the privilege of being able to work alongside a diverse selection of accomplished artist such as The Soul Collective, comprising of Paul Weller, Dee C Lee and Jimmy Ruffin, The British Collective comprising of Omar, Don-E and the late great Noal McCoy, Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy, Kim Wilde who he had a no-6 hit with in 1987 the title “Another Step” and Luciano to name a few who he did a duet with on a new version of “Mama Used To Say” released in 2021. In 1995 Junior contributed to that infamous first album by “The Lighthouse Family” simply entitled “ Ocean Drive” The titles, the titles I hear you ask. Well they are “Keep Remembering” and “What Could Be Better”. This album sold over 5,000,000(5 million” copies worldwide. That same year Junior decided to set up his own label StepOff Music. The following year saw the release of “The Best of Junior” album on Polygram. Junior released “Honesty” his first album on his own Lable in Japan commanding sales to the tune of 30,000(thirty thousand) copies, the album was released in the UK in 1997. A pioneer in his field, Junior was amongst the first wave of British black artist to present to the world a style of British music which had not been heard before over 40 years ago. He has consistently produced a number of important albums which have charted his artistic growth and development.
