Lawrence Power & EXAUDI: Cassandra Miller's The Years
About the Event
Artist in Residence Lawrence Power is joined by illustrious string-player friends and groundbreaking vocal ensemble EXAUDI to give the premiere of a visionary new work by Cassandra Miller.
Canadian composer Cassandra Miller is known for creating profoundly emotional work, often by processing existing music in magical ways, described as ‘immensely beautiful, immensely haunting’ (The New Yorker). In this concert we hear the results of that alchemy in The Years, co-commissioned by the Barbican, in which she channels a meditation on mortality through the extraordinary voices of EXAUDI and a super-group string trio made up of Ilya Gringolts, Nicolas Altstaedt and Lawrence Power.
In the first half, the three string players thread their way through an intricate tapestry of musical history arriving at Beethoven’s turbulent String Trio Op. 9 No. 3.
Presented by the Barbican.
