London Schools Symphony Orchestra

The LSSO brings a vivid new programme inspired by the sea to Croydon’s Fairfield Halls. Conducted by Enyi Okpara and LSSO Conductor in Residence Sitali Dewan.

Charting a journey between classical and contemporary stories, the LSSO programme to be performed at Croydon’s Fairfield Halls, opens with Ethel Smyth's turbulent Overture to "The Wreckers", conducted by incumbent LSSO Conductor in Residence Sitali Dewan.

Enyi Okpara, will then take to the podium for John Pickard's Sea-Change - a work written for ambitious young musicians, drawing out subtler shifts in mood and colour - followed by Anna Clyne's defiant Restless Oceans, a piece of contemporary defiance inspired by Audre Lorde's poem "A Woman Speaks", in which the musicians are called on to sing and stamp their feet as well as play, standing united. The evening culminates with Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, a shimmering retelling of Sinbad's voyage and triumph across the Arabian seas.
