About the Event
Mexican Roots, Global Vision
Flor de Toloache, the Latin GRAMMY-winning and GRAMMY-nominated all-female mariachi ensemble, brings its soaring harmonies, instrumental virtuosity, and boundary-breaking spirit to SFJAZZ. The evening also features co-founder Mireya Ramos leading her own band in music from her self-titled debut, Mireya, and her latest release, Besos y Copas.
Winners of the Latin GRAMMY for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album for Las Caras Lindas and GRAMMY nominees for Indestructible, Flor de Toloache has earned international recognition for expanding the possibilities of mariachi. Blending the richness of Mexican tradition with contemporary influences, the New York ensemble pairs powerful vocals with adventurous arrangements and a magnetic stage presence. Their fiercely original sound celebrates the music’s roots while opening new paths for women in the genre.
A vocalist, violinist, composer, and producer, Ramos brings that same spirit of discovery to her own band. Drawing on mariachi, salsa, merengue, classical music, and hip-hop, she creates a musical world defined by expressive vocals, fluid improvisation, and deeply personal storytelling. Her SFJAZZ set spans the expansive sound of Mireya, whose collaborators include Gaby Moreno, Haydée Milanés, Adrian Quesada, and Mike Garson, and the intimate ranchera interpretations of Besos y Copas.
