Soultime! is an exciting jazz quartet led by reknowned pianist Leon Greening and exceptional trumpeter Steve Fishwick. Rounding out the top-flight rhythm section is Matt Home on drums and Matyas Hofecker on double bass. The group has been dedicated to expolring the music of one of their heroes, pianist and composer Bobby Timmons, but they return tonight with a new show which explores the music of the great trumpet legend Lee Morgan.
Lee Morgan was one of the defining voices of hard-bop, bringing a distinctive combination of fire, lyricism and blues feeling to the trumpet. From his landmark recordings with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers — where he was also a bandmate of Bobby Timmons — to his celebrated Blue Note albums as a leader, Morgan left an extraordinary body of music.
SoulTime! celebrates this repertoire with a programme featuring some of Morgan’s most memorable compositions, alongside some lesser known gems. This group is committed to presenting the music in the spirit in which it was originally created, with plenty of melody, soul, and down-home grooves.
