Marking the 20th anniversary of avant-garde master György Ligeti’s passing, pianist Bruno Heinen—described by The Guardian as “eclectic, eccentric, and unobtrusively erudite”—brings a thrilling rhythmic experiment to The Vortex Jazz Club. Drawing from Ligeti’s masterpiece “Musica Ricercata,” the ensemble fuses the composer’s eerie, iconic soundscapes—made famous by filmmaker Stanley Kubrick—with jazz exploration. Starting from minimal melodic ideas, the music expands into deep, shifting grooves. Featuring a stellar lineup of Heidi Vogel (vocals), Alex Hitchcock (saxophone), NYC-bassist Or Bareket, and an explosive two-drummer concept led by Gene Calderazzo alongside Moroccan roots/groove percussionist Salim Akki, this performance promises an unparalleled evening of spontaneous creation, celebrating Ligeti’s enduring genius.
