About the Event

Alto saxophonist Louis Wildi is an emerging voice on the UK jazz scene and beyond. His original music blends modern hard-bop with folk influences as well as spiritual, open soundscapes, shaped through extensive collaboration across Scandinavia. He makes his first appearance at the legendary PizzaExpress Live Soho with a special performance celebrating his 2026 debut album ‘Give and Take’. Featuring an outstanding lineup of UK/Danish Jazz talent; Esben Tjalve (piano), Henrik Jensen (double bass) and Kai MacRae (drums). Do not miss this evening of creativity and musical celebration. Louis Wildi, born in Surrey, England, and currently based in Stockholm, is a saxophonist and composer, who is emerging as a distinctive young voice on the UK jazz scene, while building a growing presence across mainland Europe too. His writing and personal sound reflects his grounding in a modern, post-bop sensibility, blended with folk influences and spiritual energy, which he has developed through his recent travels across Scandinavia. His forthcoming debut album on AMM records ‘Give and Take’ presents an international quartet featuring acclaimed (and in high-demand) Danish musicians Anders Mogensen (drums), Esben Tjalve (piano), and Peter Vuust (bass). The project brings together 4 musicians deeply rooted within the European jazz tradition, united by a focus on interplay, groove and harmonic exploration. A graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music with first-class honours, Louis studied with leading UK jazz figures including Mike Williams and Julian Siegel, and was a finalist for the Trinity Laban Gold Medal award in 2024. He is a member of NYJO and in 2025 was awarded a scholarship by the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, to attend the prestigious Nordic Jazz Masters programme, performing and studying across Sweden, Denmark and Finland. On the horn Louis’ sound, strong sense of melodic narrative and attention to harmony draws inspiration from personal mentors such as Dick Oatts, Johan Hörlén, and Jon Gordon. His compositions take inspiration from his love of the English/Celtic folk traditions, and spiritual landscapes, with particular admiration for greats like John Coltrane and Keith Jarrett. Louis has undertaken various projects, assuming roles both as a bandleader and sideman in trios, quartets, jazz orchestras and more.
