Darbar: The Singing Violin - From Technique to Expression with Kala Ramnath
About the Event
Discover how bow, breath, and voice merge into a single musical language in this intimate masterclass on The Singing Violin.
Kala Ramnath is celebrated worldwide for the gayaki-ang style that makes her violin sing. In this masterclass, she shares her virtuosic technique; from how bow control becomes an extension of breath to how bowing according to sahitya lets a bandish feel spoken rather than played.
Ramnath demonstrates how meend becomes a continuous accurate glide, how gamak becomes weighted and deliberate and how these ornaments are built from isolated sequence of notes into full alaap, taans and bandish elaboration.
This masterclass is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists. Notations will be shared with students ahead of the class.
Doors open at 3pm, admission is not permitted 5 mins after the session has started.
