Belcea Quartet

Classical refinement and Romantic daring permeate the strikingly original ideas of Beethoven’s Op. 18 No. 6, qualities united in the heart-melting despair of its famous La malinconia slow movement. It shares the bill in the Belcea Quartet’s programme with another deeply intimate expression of the composer’s inner world. The String Quartet in A minor Op. 132, created in 1825 in the wake of a serious illness, includes the convalescent composer’s sublime ‘Hymn of thanksgiving to God for recovery’.
