Espen Berg Trio

Since their debut in 2014, Norwegian pianist Espen Berg, bassist Bárður Reinert Poulsen and drummer Simon Albertsen have established one of the most distinctive piano trios in European jazz. Their music combines strong melodies with complex rhythms, deep harmonic interplay and a remarkable sense of freedom between the three musicians. As Jazz Journal put it, they are “one of the best trios in existence today”.

The trio return to Ronnie Scott’s with Entropies, their fifth album and first in four years. Released in June 2026, the album explores the tension between order and unpredictability, moving between Berg’s tightly constructed compositions, spontaneous playing and polymetric structures. The result is music that can shift from explosive, highly memorable melodies to more open and unexpected territory without losing the trio’s instinctive sense of interplay.

Berg is an acclaimed pianist who has also worked with artists including Silje Nergaard and Mathias Eick. The trio have toured extensively across Europe and Asia, with their previous performances at Ronnie Scott’s selling out.
