About

Harry Baker is an award-winning British pianist and arranger active at the highest levels of both jazz and classical performance. Harry has worked with Jamie Cullum, Misha Mullov-Abbado, Kit Downes, Gareth Lockrane and others at venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, King’s Place, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Konzerthaus Berlin. A regular cross-genre collaborator with international solo cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, recent touring highlights (featuring the music of Bach, Pat Metheny, Bill Evans and original works) include Edinburgh International Festival, Lucerne Festival and Verbier Festival.

The Harry Baker Trio is a dynamic ensemble of the best of the London jazz scene, featuring Oren McLoughlin (drums) and Freddie Jensen (double bass – Emma Rawicz, Joe Farnsworth, Ant Law). Inspired by artists ranging from Keith Jarrett to Cecile McLorin Salvant and Bon Iver, the group showcases Harry’s versatile and high-profile work as a composer and arranger: his work has been performed by Jess Gillam Ensemble, London Philharmonia Orchestra, The King’s Singers and at the BBC Proms. The Harry Baker Trio have featured on Decca Classics, and Harry’s piano arrangements have been played on BBC Radio 3 and published by ABRSM.

As a large ensemble leader, Harry released his debut EP, ‘The Floating Boy’, a suite for big band and voices performed by the Oxford University Jazz Orchestra and vocal group The Oxford Gargoyles. The album launch was accompanied by a feature interview in London Jazz News and was played on Jazz FM, leading presenter Helen Mayhew to comment that “the future of British jazz is in very capable hands.”

Harry is also a passionate advocate for music education. He holds the position of Lecturer in Music at Pembroke College Oxford, where he is the Jazz lead at the Faculty of Music, and is the Founder and Director of the Oxford University Jazz Scheme.
