Reminiscing In Tempo is a new project featuring freewheeling reinterpretations of the music of Duke Ellington that has been put together specially for EFG London Jazz Festival by Jazz at Trades.Ellington’s music was constantly in flux, with many of his well known compositions being rearranged over and over again throughout his career (his first opportunity to record long form versions of his compositions on 1951’s Masterpieces By Ellington features an 11 minute long arrangement of Sophisticated Lady, that is almost symphonic in scope). With this adventurous and ever innovative spirit in mind Jazz at Trades has commissioned ambitious new arrangements of the music of Duke Ellington to be played by a group of improvisers who each, as bandleaders and composers themselves, are always seeking to expand the language of their own music.
