About the Event
A foundational voice of Brazilian music and a pioneer of the Clube de Esquina movement that emerged from Minas Gerais in the 1970s alongside Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges, Toninho Horta helped define a harmonic language that reshaped MPB and continues to influence generations of jazz musicians worldwide.
Toninho Horta is considered one of the most creative figures in Brazilian popular music. At a young age, he joined Clube da Esquina, a group formed in Minas Gerais in the late 1960s that blended influences from rock, samba, and Brazilian regional music. Alongside singer Milton Nascimento and other collaborators, he contributed to the album Clube da Esquina (1972), a landmark in MPB for its blend of poetry and sonic experimentation.
Over his illustrious career, Horta’s music has transcended borders, and has been performed and recorded by a diverse array of artists, from Pat Metheny to Earth, Wind & Fire. With a prolific discography boasting over 1,000 recordings and 40 albums, his contributions to music are both vast and profound.
This event will last for approximately 110 minutes, including an interval.
