About the Event

This concert marks the 85th anniversary of the meeting that agreed the logistics of the so called ‘Final Solution to the Jewish Question’. It tells the story of two contrasting lakeside houses; the palatial Wannsee Villa, where the notorious conference took place, and a nearby modest summer house, whose Jewish owner, the Berlin physician Alfred Alexander, was forced to flee Germany with his family. The subsequent fate of the ‘Alexander Haus’, which was intrinsically linked to the turbulent years of Nazism and Communism, is told by Thomas Harding in his bestselling book The House by the Lake. It is now a place of education and reconciliation.
