The idea of ​​classical improvising on two pianos began playfully one afternoon in Berlin, following a counterpoint lesson. It emerged from conversations – musical and otherwise – covering a vast array of topics, all driven by the same need: to discover and express, to understand and create. Understanding without creating (analysis) and creating without understanding (instinct) – and every nuance in between. The first half of tonight’s concert is dedicated to the Impressionist world, pieces from the French repertoire juxtaposed with commentary, reinterpretations and improvised explorations. The second consists entirely of improvisations for two pianos, which involves the audience offering musical or extra-musical suggestions to guide the improvisations.
