Contemporary European Jazz
This stimulating European Contemporary Jazz Quintet wishes to convey, with their music, positive and energetic feelings to the listener, bringing to everybody a wonderful music dialog.
The Band will propose their own interesting originals and famous compositions, bringing together colours from their homelands.
A very special guest from the Island of Malta, virtuoso trumpet player Adrian Brincat will join three wonderful DAAD soloists: award winning, great saxophonist Silke Eberhard, refined ECM pianist Benedikt Jahnel and creative bassist Pepe Berns. Dynamic international drummer Andrea Marcelli will join the rhythm section. Expect Contemporary and creative Jazz and a lot of colors!!
SILKE EBERHARD has featured in almost every Downbeat Critics Polls since 2015: 72nd (2024) – 71st (2023) – 70th (2022) – 69th (2021) – 67th (2019) – 66th (2018) – 65th (2017) – 63rd (2015)
In 2020 she received the Jazzpreis Berlin in recognition of her achievements.

For many years the saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Silke Eberhard has left her mark on the Berlin jazz scene and has also received great international acclaim with performances on all continents (except Antarctica!).
Silke works with many collective ensembles, including the duo with Ulrich Gumpert. She performs and has recorded with numerous musicians of the international jazz scene such as Henry Threadgill & Zooid, Aki Takase, Nikolaus Neuser, David Liebman, Sandy Evans, Maggie Nicols, Hannes Zerbe, Dave Rempis, Mike Reed, Wayne Horvitz, Ken Vandermark. Her work is documented on approximately 50 albums.
ADRIAN “Irrussu” BRINCAT is a soloist trumpeter with more than 30 years of experience and worked for the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2010 obtained a Diploma in Jazz from The London College of Music. Adrian participates in the Malta Jazz Festivals. Also he conducted five own-organised full house first ever Jazz concerts in Malta. He was the lead trumpet player and soloist at the Armed Forces of Malta, where he served 25 years.Currently he is a resident musician with the Rifffs, also works with Ira Losco and Tribali and other bands. In 2013 Adrian was honoured to join the world-class hand-crafted instrument company `Eclipse UK Trumpets` and became one of the artists who represents the brand. He is a popular face on TV, performs at various events, concerts, shows, musicals, festivals and represents Malta abroad.
BENEDIKT JAHNEL – piano. ECM recording artist.“Er gehört zu den vielseitigsten Pianisten der aktuellen deutschen Jazzszene. Bekannt wurde er einem breiteren Publikum als Pianist der Band Cyminology um die Vokalistin Cymin Samawathie. Doch daneben hat der heute 32-jährige Benedikt Jahnel an seiner eigenen Musik gefeilt. Erfahrungen aus Cyminology oder dem Quartett Max.bab helfen dem Diplom-Mathematiker beim „Ausbalancieren der Elemente“. PEPE BERNS – bass. Er studierte am California Institute of Fine Arts bei Charlie Haden und an der Manhattan School of Music bei Harvie Swartz und Maria Schneider (DAAD Stipendium). Er war in New York Mitglied des Quartetts von Eliot Zigmund und trat unter anderem mit Ben Monder, Vic Juris, Jeff Williams, Chris Potter, Mike Lee, Tom Raney und Joel Frahm auf.Seit 1994 lebt Berns in Berlin und arbeitet hier mit lokalen und internationalen Musikern verschiedener Genres.Er spielte bereits während seiner Studienzeit Aufnahmen z.B. unter Joachim Ullrich ein und trat unter anderem im Trio mit Christoph Adams und Steve Argüelles auf.Seit 2000 spielt er mit Peter Weniger im Trio „Tambour“ des Vibraphonisten David Friedman.Berns unterrichtet seit 2004 am Jazz Institut Berlin und an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater»Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy«in Leipzig als Professor für Jazz-Bass.
Drummer/composer ANDREA MARCELLI moved to the USA in 1989, spending eight years in Los Angeles and four in New York City. He has resided in Berlin since 2001. Two of his tunes are included in both “The European Real Book“ and “The Digital Real Book part 2“. He is leading an active international musical life, performing with Wayne Shorter, Don Menza, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, Bob Mintzer, Eddie Gomez, Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber, Markus Stockhausen, Palle Danielsson, John Patitucci, Mike Mainieri, Hiram Bullock, Frank Gambale, Andy Summers and others. He recorded many albums and two critically acclaimed Cds with legendary Major Label Verve/PolyGram.
