About the Event
ÂME
Âme is a new collective trio featuring saxophonist and clarinetist Chet Doxas, bassist Leighton Harrell, and drummer Tomas Fujiwara. Taking its name from the French word for “soul,” the group has spent the past year developing a shared sound in the musical laboratory of Doxas’ studio.
Drawing on their experience as composers and improvisers, the three musicians explore the possibilities of orchestration and interplay within the trio, finding an expansive range of expression in this intimate setting. Their influences span Duke Ellington to dub, feeding a collective curiosity that continues to push the music in new directions.
This performance marks Âme’s debut at Close Up.
