David August: Solo Piano
About the Event
The Italian-German electronic composer performs his intimate and restrained new solo piano album, HYMNS.
Turning inward, this is music that recalls light rather than darkness – quiet but intense, restrained yet emotionally direct. It unfolds as a sequence of prepared-piano improvisations shaped by live processing, silence and soundscapes.
This is a deeply personal body of work that strips away the vast electronic architectures he’s best known for and narrows the focus to something direct and intimate. Written and recorded in 2021 through periods of isolation and improvisation, HYMNS marks a conscious return to August’s origins: the instrument that shaped his earliest musical language, the piano.
The support act, Balladeste, is a cello and violin duo creating richly textured instrumental music shaped by contemporary classical, Indian classical, baroque and folk. Their fourth album Imprints releases this November.
