Fazıl Say

The world-renowned classical pianist crosses into jazz, reimagining his classical arrangements and exploring the art of improvisation with his jazz quintet.

Say Plays Jazz marks a new chapter for world-renowned pianist and composer Fazıl Say, bringing his classical voice into dialogue with the freedom and improvisational energy of jazz. Led by Say, his jazz quintet performs two new works written for the ensemble alongside fresh jazz arrangements from across his repertoire.

Conceived as a continuous 75–80 minute musical journey, the performance flows seamlessly from one work to the next, creating an immersive experience rather than a traditional concert programme.

At its heart is a reflection on our world today, from social and global crises to the environment, education, nature and contemporary life. Drawing on the full evolution of Say’s jazz work, the quintet combines virtuosity, individuality and high-energy improvisation to make every performance unique.
