GBSR Duo: Blue Hours
About the Event
Siwan Rhys and George Barton perform James Weeks’ Blue Hours in St Giles' Cripplegate as afternoon shifts into evening, tracing the changing light through an immersive live performance.
Blue Hours invites sustained listening. The title refers to the blue hour, the period just after sunset or before sunrise when blue light dominates and the day feels suspended between states.
Encouraging deep focus on small details, this meditative epic presents a developing and enveloping soundworld of percussion and electronics in rich interactions with piano, in long, soft, resonant and complex textures.
The performance takes place in St Giles' Cripplegate, where the transition from daylight to darkness becomes part of the piece.
Blue Hours by James Weeks was written between 2023-25, for piano and percussion. Performed by GBSR Duo, Siwan Rhys and George Barton, it unfolds over three hours and thirty minutes as a single continuous experience.
Please plan to remain for the full duration if you can. If you need to move during the performance, we ask that you do so as quietly and discreetly as possible.
