Collaboration with like-minded artists is part of life for this evening’s trio of renowned string players. Hana Chang and Sol Gabetta begin with Martinů’s Duo No. 1, first performed a century ago in Paris. The Czech composer’s Madrigals, inspired by Mozart’s string duos and Martinů’s love of Elizabethan madrigals, make the ideal companion pieces for the five witty movements of Dohnányi’s Serenade, partly written in 1904 during a concert tour to London.
