Fred Onovwerosuoke’s Concertino for Two Oboes and String Quintet is a continuation of the composer’s cycle of works that channel African folklore, mythology and traditions. Subtitled ‘A Tale of the Fisherfolks’, this work weaves together musical fragments inspired by the lives and stories of fishing communities along Africa’s coastlines. While these tales differ across regions, they share common themes reflected in the piece’s eight descriptive sections. The rest of the programme features arrangements of Nigerian traditional and highlife songs.
