About the Event
Pianist, composer and producer Elan Mehler has built a multifaceted career centered on thoughtful, energetic music that bridges composed material and improvisational exploration. Elan first came to international attention after being heard by legendary broadcaster Gilles Peterson during an Alpine club residency — an encounter that led to a recording contract with Brownswood Recordings. Over nearly two decades, Mehler has released 12 acclaimed recordings as a leader and collaborator, including his trio work, solo albums, and projects with artists such as Bill Frisell, Becca Stevens and Dave Douglas.
Jeremy Viner is a Berlin-based saxophonist, clarinetist, improviser, composer, and educator whose wide-ranging work spans jazz, experimental music, and hybrid acoustic/electronic forms. After nearly two decades in New York’s vibrant scene, Viner relocated to Europe while maintaining an active international presence. He has performed with ensembles led by innovative figures such as John Hollenbeck, Steve Lehman, Tyshawn Sorey, Rafiq Bhatia, and Anna Webber, appearing at major venues and festivals including North Sea Jazz, Big Ears, Moers Festival, Winter Jazz Festival, and Jazzfest Berlin. A longtime member of John Hollenbeck’s ensembles — including the Grammy-nominated John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble - Viner also co-founded adventurous projects like the trio SIFTERS and contributes to the genre-bending tenor quartet Battle Trance and the minimalist ensemble Bing & Ruth. His work reflects a deep commitment to collaborative creation, fluid improvisation, and the integration of composed structures with spontaneous interplay.
Bassist Conor Chaplin is one of the most in-demand UK bassists of his generation. He is currently on tour with Norwegian saxophone virtuoso Marius Neset, rising star vocalist Emma Smith, Iiro Rantala, Laura Jurd’s Mercury Prize-nominated group Dinosaur, pianist Gwilym Simcock, and guitarist Tom Ollendorff, among others. Chaplin has toured extensively throughout the UK, North America, Europe, and Asia, and has performed with an exceptionally wide range of artists, including Jacob Collier, Harold Mabern, George Garzone, Jeff Ballard, Jeff Hamilton, Joe Farnsworth, Ethan Iverson, Ben Wendel, Ari Hoenig, and Kenny Werner.
