The Octet – Chamber Studio at Kings Place
Lineup
About the Event
For this special Hall One concert, the internationally acclaimed Elias Quartet is joined by new Chamber Studio Fellows the Elmore Quartet and rising ensemble the Isla Quartet
The programme explores the string octet in two strikingly different works. Shostakovich’s Two Pieces for String Octet brings the Elmore and Isla Quartets together in music of raw energy, before the Elias Quartet and Talland Quartets join forces for Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E flat, Op. 20, an astonishingly assured work written when the composer was just 16 and one of the great celebrations of the octet format. Also in the programme, Webern’s Fünf Sätze für Streichquartett, Op. 5, performed by the Isla Quartet, offers a concentrated and expressive counterpoint.
Chamber Studio are there for world-class ensembles at the start of their journey, giving them the coaching, mentoring and support they need to thrive. Our year-round programmes offer continuous training as they establish themselves professionally, helping to sustain and nourish the future of chamber music.
This event will last approximately 60 minutes, with no interval.
