EFG London Jazz Festival: Spice Jazz Soho: Emily Francis Trio
Lineup
About the Event
Led by acclaimed keyboardist and composer Emily Francis, the Emily Francis Trio is one of the UK's leading progressive jazz ensembles, combining high-energy improvisation with influences from electronic music, progressive rock and contemporary jazz.
Featuring bassist Trevor Boxall and drummer Jamie Murray, the trio has developed a distinctive sound that blends melodic sophistication, cinematic textures and powerful grooves, drawing inspiration from artists such as Donny McCaslin, FORQ, Kneebody, Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau, Pink Floyd, Genesis and Peter Gabriel.
Since forming in 2014, the trio has built a loyal following among both jazz and prog audiences through a series of critically acclaimed releases including The Absent (2015), LUMA (2022), Atomic (2024) and the live album Atomic Tour Live (2025). Their performances have taken them to major UK venues and festivals including Ronnie Scott's, Manchester Jazz Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Peggy's Skylight, The Verdict and London Jazz Festival.
Emily Francis herself is an in-demand session musician whose credits include Robert Fripp, Andrea Bocelli, Toyah Willcox, Rumer and Ward Thomas, while Jamie Murray and Trevor Boxall are recognised among the UK's most respected rhythm section players.
Described by Jazzwise as "a thing of rare beauty", the trio continues to push the boundaries of the piano trio format, delivering music that is simultaneously accessible, adventurous and emotionally compelling.
