European Jazz All Stars Quintet ft. Joe Magnarelli
Lineup
About the Event
In October 2024, PizzaExpress Jazz Club, Dean Street welcomed the European Jazz All Stars Quintet for their London debut, part of a wider European tour. The band played to a capacity, highly appreciative audience, marking a memorable first appearance at the club.
The quintet features the world-class trumpet playing of New York–based Joe Magnarelli, alongside Rik Van den Bergh on baritone saxophone. They are supported by a first class rhythm section: Rob Barron (piano), Jeremy Brown (double bass), and Bernd Reiter (drums). Together, these top-level European and US musicians will deliver a hard-driving hard bop set, paying tribute to the late trumpet great Kenny Dorham and the legendary baritone saxophonist Charles Davis.
Joe Magnarelli has worked extensively in the United States, performing with the Lionel Hampton Jazz Orchestra, Aretha Franklin, and the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Rik Van den Bergh, from the Netherlands, is a specialist on baritone saxophone and has shared the stage with jazz greats including Jim Rotondi and Gary Smulyan, as well as being a regular member of the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra.
Pianist Rob Barron is well known to London jazz audiences through his work with Claire Martin and Georgia Cécile, and for collaborations with US artists such as Grant Stewart and Marlena Shaw. Jeremy Brown is a highly in-demand bassist, admired for his rare ability to make the double bass truly sing. Austrian drummer Bernd Reiter, now based in Paris, has enjoyed a distinguished international career, working with artists including Harold Mabern and Kirk Lightsey.
This is a rare opportunity to hear the European Jazz All Stars Quintet once again, live at one of the UK’s finest jazz venues, PizzaExpress Jazz Club, Soho.
