Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto
About the Event
Enjoy an evening of classical music's most beloved compositions including Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Rachmaninov’s sublime Piano Concerto No.2
Spend an evening with loved ones, enjoying the festive cheer with a beautiful programme celebrating the connections we hold dear.
Commence the evening with Elgar's Enigma Variations, 14 musical portraits of the composer’s friends and family, the first of which was dedicated to the composer’s wife Alice. The best known of the variations, No. 9, portrays a conversation between the composer and his friend Jaeger, who offered valuable artistic guidance throughout their enduring friendship.
The evening draws to a close with Rachmaninov’s sublime Piano Concerto No.2 dedicated to his physician Nikolai Dahl. With his creative block cured, Rachmaninov was able to create one of the greatest works in the piano repertoire.
