About the Event

Led by American saxophonist Dave Lewis, DLQ embodies the spirit and soul of jazz. Four players whose friendship and shared musical passion come together to create exciting improvisation, great feel and groove. They bring a wealth of musical artistry and experience to their performance, but above all they have a unique shared sonic vision which gives a distinct and unmistakable identity to their music

DLQ perform original material alongside classic rare groove tracks from the Blue Note era, including music associated with Ivan ‘Boogaloo Joe’ Jones, Stanley Turrentine and Grant Green. They also draw on more contemporary influences including Mike Brecker, John Scofield and The Crusaders.

Firm favourites at Ronnie Scott’s Late Shows, DLQ have played their groove-led sets to audiences into the early hours. Between them, the four musicians have worked with artists including John Martyn, George Benson, Gregory Porter, Van Morrison, Gil Scott-Heron, George Coleman, Kenny Wheeler, Hugh Masekela, Bryan Ferry, Eric Clapton, The Blockheads, Joss Stone and Ronnie Laws.

“Lewis has this trick that not many hornmen have. He can be blowing some real lowdown dirty blues whilst, without losing the mood, slot in the most melodic phrase you ever heard!”
— bebop spoken here

“It's a real treat… tight chunky grooves and very exciting and funky sax... this is an absolute breath of fresh air. Dave Lewis... sets a standard of powerful, fiery solos that will be hard to surpass.”
— Blues and Soul
