Rory Ingham's Trombone Assembly
Lineup
About the Event
Rory Ingham brings his all-star band Trombone Assembly to Kings Place to celebrate their long-awaited debut album. Showcasing five of the UK’s finest trombonists alongside a world-class rhythm section, the ensemble reimagines classics like Stardust and Cherokee alongside original works inspired by jazz greats. Expect velvet tones, swinging grooves, and ‘effortlessly virtuosic’ (Jazzwise) trombone playing throughout.
Trombone Assembly is the band that pushes the instrument away from the sidelines and into the limelight. Defying the reputation of the trombone, this ensemble is a voyage into many soundscapes: a velvety choir, a swinging big band, and the engaging interplay of small-combo jazz. In a dazzling display of the trombone’s diversity, you’ll experience bespoke arrangements of beloved standards from early jazz to bebop and beyond, original works that showcase the trombone’s range and texture, and a musical intensity that leaves you beaming from head to toe.
Ever since their first sell-out show at Ronnie Scott’s, the ensemble have harnessed a strong following and several appearances at prestigious venues and festivals around the world. Joining bandleader Rory Ingham (British Jazz Awards Rising Star), the trombone superstars are: national treasure Mark Nightingale (18-time winner of Best Trombonist in British Jazz Awards), the extraordinary Trevor Mires (Sir Tom Jones), up-and-coming virtuoso Daniel Higham (Robbie Williams), and legendary recording artist Andy Wood (Stevie Wonder). The five-trombone front line will be joined by a top-flight rhythm section of Ross Stanley on piano and Fender Rhodes, Sam Quintana on double and electric bass, and Ian Thomas on drums.
This event will last for approximately 120 minutes, including an interval.
