About the Event
Drawing inspiration from legendary jazz vocalists such as Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, as well as modern-day artists like Harry Connick Jr. and Jamie Cullum, Mathias combines a deep respect for jazz tradition with a fresh, original voice. His effortlessly charming delivery and talent for crafting stylish, memorable songs set him apart as a unique presence in contemporary jazz.
To celebrate the release of his third album Just the Way You Are (August 2026), Mathias and his band explore the Great American Songbook for the first time, offering personal interpretations of both well-loved classic and contemporary jazz standards, alongside originals from his award-winning albums Free Falling and I’m All Ears.
Born in Silkeborg, Denmark, and raised partly in Tanzania, Mathias grew up in a deeply musical household filled with 34 instruments. Although the saxophone became his primary instrument, a car accident at age 17 left him with the loss of three fingers on one hand. Facing the possibility that his playing career was over, he turned to singing and song writing. After extensive rehabilitation, he regained the ability to play and went on to study at the Copenhagen Rhythmic Music Conservatory. Today, in addition to leading his own quartet and 10-piece ensemble, he is a frequent guest vocalist with the Danish Radio Big Band.
