About the Event
Like every year, Django Amsterdam is dedicated to breathtaking instrumental music, but now the program also features vocals. Hot Club International comprises five friends from five different nationalities. They’ve recreated the original formation of Django Reinhardt’s Hot Club de France. But be aware: Django didn’t sing, while these five do! A live performance by Hot Club International is a charming musical journey through Portuguese language, Spanish, Dutch, Ukrainian, Russian, English, French and Tzigane.
The second part of the concert features a well-known performer for Django Amsterdam: Tim Kliphuis is a torchbearer of the legacy of Stéphane Grappelli, original violinist of Quintette du Hot Club de France. The Tim Kliphuis Trio – celebrating twenty years of touring the world – will present a swinging Django program with some surprises, including their exciting new take on George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Tim Kliphuis has toured and recorded with legendary guitarists such as Fapy Lafertin, Angelo Debarre, and Stochelo and Mozes Rosenberg.
Django Amsterdam is dedicated to the birthday of guitar legend Django Reinhardt (1910-1953). His style of acoustic swing jazz became part of Roma and Sinti culture. Django is generally considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
