Billy Mohler Trio with Joe La Barbera & Mark Turner Album Release Show

Covell Album Release Show I'm excited to celebrate the release of Covell at Sam First on October 30, 2026, with Joe LaBarbera and Mark Turner. Earlier this year, the three of us played a one-off performance at Covell in Los Angeles. I brought in some new music for the trio, and we played it that night with no rehearsal—just keeping things loose, spontaneous, and fun. After the show, a few people asked if we had recorded the set and where they could get a copy. Unfortunately, we hadn't recorded a thing. But the music had a vibe. It felt like we had stumbled onto something worth documenting. I called Joe and Mark the next day and asked if they'd be up for making a record. The following week, we were back at Covell for a daytime session before the club opened, joined by Bryce Gonzales, his custom-built Highland Dynamics tube console, and a 4-track Nagra recorder. We set up and played the same set we'd performed the week before. A few hours later, we walked out with a finished record. Covell was born.
