About the Event
From the convergence of three musicians with rich artistic journeys, a musical project of exchange and research was born, featuring original compositions and arrangements alongside magnificent pieces from the jazz tradition both standards and originals.
Laura Klain was born in Toulouse, France. She moved after a few weeks to the city of Naples, Italy.
She began studying frame drums at the age of seven, thanks to the artistic influence of her mother, an international manager of World Music. At the age of 8 she was noticed by Maestro Eugenio Bennato, an Italian singer-songwriter from Naples, who invited her to go on stage to play the final songs of the concerts.
She was invited to model and play with Bennato’s quintet, by Giorgio Armani in the atelier in Milan, when she was just twelve years old.
At the age of thirteen she became the first percussionist of Bennato’s “Taranta Power” group, with which she undertook five years of touring around the world. Some of the most prestigious places such as the Cairo Opera House with the opera orchestra, the Pyramids of Egypt, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, National Theater of Algiers for the 1st Euromed Concert for dialogue between cultures. Wales, Spain, France, Ethiopia, Morocco, Tunisia, Greece, Balkan countries, Kosovo. She collaborates with artists such as Trilok Gurtu, Hansa El Bechaira, Fathy Salama, Alfio Antico, Antonio Infantino and many others.
At sixteen she decides to undertake Jazz Drums studies with Maestro Salvatore Tranchini, later with Maestro Agostino Mennella and Maestro Sergio di Natale.
She enrolls in the Berklee College Of Music Of Boston summer courses in Umbria Jazz ’07.
A few years later she moves to Tuscany where she begins a new course of studies with Maestro Walter Paoli. Later she is admitted to the Jazz course at the G.Puccini Conservatory of La Spezia where she attends the first two years with Maestro Davide Ragazzoni and Maestro Marco Volpe. She finishes her studies in Rome with Maestro Roberto Gatto.
Thanks to Jazz Manager Toti Canistraro, she participated for two years in a row in the Masterclasses in Sicily that hosted musicians of the caliber of Mark Turner, Nasheet Waits, Mark Guiliana, Jonathan Blake, Jorge Rossi, Joshua Redman, Avishai Cohen, Eddie Gomez, David Kikoski, Kurt Elling, Peter Bernstein, Jeff Ballard, Aaron Goldberg, Seamus Blake and many others.
She currently works with various musical projects. Both as a Leader and as a Sideman. In the summer of 2021 she was invited to the ‘Swing in the Wind’ festival in Switzerland with her project ‘Orange Trip’ and in various other Italian and European festivals.
She develops a strong musical collaboration with England and plays with numerous musicians present on the English Jazz scene. Performing in various venues including the Boulevard Theater in Soho and the Ronnies Scott Jazz Club.
In 2022/23, she was invited by Paolo Fresu to join Ornella Vanoni's new project, "Le donne e la musica," with which she performed in Italy's greatest theaters. The live album, "Calma Rivoluzionaria," was released on the BMG label.
She recorded her first album, "Love Song For Elvin," with Ares Tavolazzi on double bass and Gianluca Manfredonia on vibraphone, for the MR.Few label.
In November of the same year, she toured England with a trio featuring Nigel Price on guitar and Ross Stanley on Hammond organ.
