Bach Consort Wien’s revelatory programme dives deeply into Latin America’s cultural melting pot, where pre-Columbian musical traditions mixed freely with genres imported in the 1500s and after by European colonisers and the musics carried by African slaves to the plantations of the New World. Its programme, shaped and enriched by Rubén Dubrovsky’s many years of research, traces multiple lines of cultural interactions and cross-fertilisation to explore a repertoire of intimate, often melancholy songs and vibrant dances.
