Unsound Presents: The Warp x Providenza Ensemble (Loraine James, Kelman Duran, Puce Mary, Mark William Lewis, Mabe Fratti, Clarissa Connelly)
About the Event
Six artists, commissioned by Warp and Unsound, make their orchestral debuts in our Hall, premiering new works for 30 strings alongside the Sinfonietta Cracovia.
Warp’s Providenza Ensemble Residency brings six artists into new territory: composing for a 30-piece string ensemble for the first time.
Loraine James, Puce Mary, Clarissa Connelly, Mabe Fratti, Kelman Duran and Mark William Lewis developed individual ten-minute works during residencies at the Corsican agricultural site of Providenza, under the guidance of Manchester Collective co-Artistic Director Rakhi Singh and New Zealand composer Karl Sölve Steven.
Their music spans electronic, experimental and contemporary composition, from James’s intricate electronic production to Connelly’s mythic, folk-influenced songwriting and Puce Mary’s industrial noise.
The six works premiere in our hall alongside Sinfonietta Cracovia, marking a new chapter for each artist and a rare meeting of electronic and experimental music with a full string ensemble.
All contemporary concerts may contain flashing lights and haze - please contact box office for more information, if required.
