About the Event
Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Ryan Easter dances between the telegrammatic and the colloquial. Exploring the endless dichotomies in life (he will tell you every Migos ad lib is a child of James Brown), his artistry is a connective tissue through culture and experience.
Often seen leading The Trap Music Orchestra and Okra Juice, front-manning the quartet Wrens, or being a sideman for peers such as Alfredo Colon and Anna Webber, he’s also shared space with Jennifer Holiday, Talib Kweli, Donald Harrison, and more. Since moving to Brooklyn in 2021, Easter has been steadily permeating through New York City music, and performing with several groups throughout Europe.
As a trumpet player, composer, arranger, film scorer, and several other hats too many, Easter approaches with honesty, non-sequitur, irony, and a strong sense of lineage. His most recent release, “Half of What You See” with Wrens, was met with strong praise and curiosity.
