About the Event
Experience a live performance of Steve Reich’s hypnotic, era-defining Music for 18 Musicians.
Tuned percussion, pianos, clarinets, violin, cello and women’s voices weave ever-shifting patterns of sound, their duration determined by the length of a human breath. Half a century ago, Steve Reich took elements of Balinese gamelan, West African drumming, bebop, jazz, medieval polyphony and the scat singing of Ella Fitzgerald, and created a soundworld that's entirely his own.
The New York Times chose Music for 18 Musicians as one of the ten most important works of the 1970s, and its impact and influence show no signs of diminishing.
A spectacular live performance led by the acclaimed percussionist Colin Currie, alongside Guildhall School of Music and Drama musicians and dazzling live visuals from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Production Arts department.
