Renell Shaw: Remember Us Tomorrow
About the Event
Join Artist-in-Residence Renell Shaw for the world premiere of Remember Us Tomorrow, the third and final chapter of his acclaimed work The Windrush Suite.
More than music, The Windrush Suite is a living archive of Black British history. Its first part honoured the courage and resilience of Shaw’s grandparents’ generation, who travelled from the Caribbean to help rebuild post-war Britain. The second, Echo in the Bones, gave voice to their children — born here, yet often made to question where they truly belonged.
With Remember Us Tomorrow, Shaw turns towards the future. This powerful new work asks what it means to be of Afro-Caribbean heritage after three generations in Britain, raising a fourth generation in a world that is both hyper-connected and deeply divided. Which parts of our history do we carry forward? What stories must we protect? And how do we ensure we are remembered as tomorrow takes shape?
Blending rich orchestration, resonant vocals, poetry, and Shaw’s signature fusion of melody and rhythm, Remember Us Tomorrow is both a love letter to community and a bold act of cultural preservation. This is Shaw’s most personal work to date — a triumphant closing statement to a trilogy that has redefined how the Windrush story is told.
This performance will be followed by a Q&A session with Renell Shaw.
This event will last approximately 1 hour 10 minutes, with no interval.
